SAMPLES
Sample Network Post: All of this has a strangely familiar ring to it.
[He sounds more amused than anything. The sound of measured, pacing footsteps can be heard in the background.]
A revelation of this magnitude might drive a weak man to an existential crisis. Still, it's a fascinating situation. I'm told every one of us retains memories from our... hm. Past lives, for lack of a better phrase. I'm curious to hear how each of you reacted upon being told the nature of your existence here.
Sample Prose Post:
Wesker stretches his hand out in front of him. Yes, it certainly feels different, the body he's in. He curls his fingers in to form a fist, turns it, opens it again. He repeats the motion twice. He remembers a ghost of a feeling, like an electric current channeling pure, raw power through every nerve ending, into every muscle, permeating every cell.
He walks carefully around his quarters, taking in the details. He remembers there being more texture to everything, more depth and vibration. Things look right, but different.
Wesker approaches the bed, touches the covers, and lowers himself onto the mattress. This, too, feels foreign. Something he remembers how to do, but only distantly. He takes a series of deep breaths and stands again. He has housemates he must become acquainted with, though the thought of achieving harmony with any of the people he's about to meet seems nearly impossible.
This is going to be an exercise in patience for him. Everything is familiar yet not, but the drive to make connections with others? That is another beast entirely.
PERSONALITY
- How does your character feel about what he/she is doing with his or her life? Are they satisfied, or do they feel like they are waiting for something better?
Wesker spent many of his years feeling incomplete and vaguely lost, uncertain of his purpose. However, he now feels that he has arrived at his purpose now that Spencer is dead and he's accepted his role as ruler of a new world. With every step he takes toward completing his plan, he feels a little closer to completion.
- Describe a situation where this character was forced to ask for help with a task. Was he or she reluctant to seek assistance? Why?
Wesker doesn't ask for help so much as imply that it would benefit the other person to do something he needs. For instance, when he needed Excella' Gionne's help to get funding and research done through Tricell, he did it by offering her power and companionship in exchange for her assistance. He never asked, he simply implied that she would benefit from executing certain tasks in order to secure her position at Tricell
- How does your character view the world? Do they find it pleasant or do they wish there was something else out there?
Wesker believes that the human race has stagnated and requires a catalyst to evolve further. He has dedicated his life to wiping the world clean and starting over with a new, stronger version of humanity.
- Describe how your character would thank another. Does s/he jump on the opportunity?
Much like any situation when he has to ask for help, he never outright states his thanks. He assumes that since an equal exchange has been made, there's no need to express gratitude. If no exchange occurs, he feels entitled to whatever has been given to him. If he has to thank someone vocally, it's usually callous and empty, giving the recipient no real feeling of gratitude.
- Describe an important task that your character was responsible for. Did they abandon the task or stick with it to completion?
Wesker and his colleague, William Birkin, were tasked with assassinating Dr. James Marcus. They assigned a small task force to commit the act itself, but personally oversaw the operation and ascertained that he was dead.
- Is your character well-acquainted with his or her own motivations? Do others perceive his or her motivations the same way?
Wesker sees his motivations as very sensible and progressive, while others might go with adjectives like "deranged" or "egotistical". More than that, Wesker sees his views as the only definitive response to the world he lives in. He represents a new version of humanity, and he sees it as his responsibility to see that the world lives up to his potential.
- Describe a situation in which your character and a figure of authority did not see things eye-to-eye. Was your character willing to compromise or did s/he stand his or her ground?
Frequently during his time with Umbrella, Wesker found himself having reservations about the projects his superiors chose to involve him in. After he was ordered to assassinate Marcus, he had doubts about working under Spencer and chose to transfer to the company's Intelligence Bureau, ceasing work on the T-Virus project. He never spoke out against Spencer directly, but carried out his orders and chose to distance himself when the opportunity became available.
- Describe a situation in which your character was forced to make a complicated decision. Did s/he make the decision before s/he knew all of the facts or did s/he bide his or her time until s/he was absolutely sure?
Wesker made the decision to leave Umbrella early on, but didn't act for many years. He waited until the company was vulnerable and took the opportunity to steal research data. If he had acted too early, he would not have made a clean break with the company, but if he had acted too late, there would have been no information to defect with. His only miscalculation was the competence of the S.T.A.R.S. team, as they managed to destroy the T-002 Tyrant he had planned on salvaging from the wreckage of Umbrella.
- Has your character ever made a decision that benefited them for the moment but had severe or even dangerous repercussions in the long run? If not, has your character ever made a decision that would benefit them in the long run but brought them anguish or even misery in the interim?
During the Mansion Incident, Wesker injected himself with a variant of the Progenitor virus given to him by William Birkin. He then allowed the T-002 Tyrant to kill him, confident that the virus would resurrect and heal him. He suffered a painful death, but in his mind it was worth the abilities he would gain. From an outside perspective, he sacrificed his humanity and sanity for the sake of his abilities, and his ego eventually cost him everything.
- Describe a situation in which the character accomplished something very difficult or with the odds stacked against them. What was their initial reaction? Were they prone to bragging or did they humbly and quietly enjoy their success?
Wesker spent much of his escape from the Arklay mansion congratulating himself on his new abilities, ego swelling with ever B.O.W. he defeated. Despite the numerous hurdles, he escaped the mansion with his life and the research data, and continually verbalized his pride, in spite of the fact that he was his own audience.
